Comic Book Jobs: Who’s Hiring? Viz Media

Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Editorials, Viz Media

Bleach 362Viz, the publishers of Shonen Jump, Bleach, One Piece, Dragonball Z and Naruto (and tons of other great manga and anime projects) is looking for a Purchasing & Logistics Coordinator to join their Finance team!

Could that be you? It could be if you have experience in “purchasing and/or supply-chain-management” and “experience in Print/Optical Disc/Home Entertainment Product Packaging procurement” and “knowledge of competitive and lawful bidding and awarding requirements” and you understand the “regulatory factors governing purchasing such as UCC, antitrust laws and ethical principles.” I need a translator for almost everything you just read, but if you don’t, pop that resume over.

The chosen one will assist Viz’s Director of Purchasing with “establishing, communicating, and maintaining company-wide purchasing policies and procedures” so you won’t just be following orders, you’ll be tracking purchasing orders through the system.

You’ll be working in an office environment and “75% of time spent on the job involves use of a video display terminal; therefore, must be able to sit for extended periods and to utilize standard ergonomics practices.” That’s something almost no one ever puts in an ad – there’s a lot of chair time so start thinking about your posture, and good things to nibble on between bathroom breaks and cigarettes.

And as always, here’s my favorite Viz disclaimer: “As part of a multi-media entertainment company, employees may be subjected to work-related images including content such as: sexually explicit images, nudity, and graphic violence. Employees should be willing to work with this type of content. Viz Media does not condone the viewing of this content where not work-related.” I think there’s an episode of a David E. Kelley show where they try to prove that all those images are work-related at all times, and if not, then maybe Mr. Kelley could start writing it.

Like many a good corporation, Viz Media has a number of employee benefits worth considering, including “Health (including chiropractic/acupuncture), Dental, and Vision insurances…Life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance…401(k) plan…Paid vacation and sick time…Paid holidays — average 13 days/year…Partially paid gym membership…Flex-time…Full-time casual dress policy.”

So if you’re out there, Purchasing & Logistics Coordinator, and you like to mash-up government regulations with your manga, this job’s for you!
